My journey

2009

The year that tested me

One day, I was laying down to take a nap on my sectional sofa, I woke up about 45 minutes later and I could NOT get up…I couldn’t move my legs. I was scared, my heart was racing, I could literally taste my anxiety. And then I started crying… at some point my brain signaled for me to get my phone.

Luckily it was right next to me and I called one of my Pharmaceutical Dr. friends. And she heard the panic in my voice just from saying hello. I told her I couldn’t move my legs, I started crying again and she told me to calm down, “try wiggling your toes, she said, pinch your legs”.

I did all of that still stressed and anxious and then the feelings in my legs came back.

I got off the phone cried some more, then went back to work.  You would think I would have seen that as a warning. NOPE Workaholics anonymous here.

Months later, I ended up in the hospital from Adrenal Fatigue and my Best friend was with me and as I lay in the hospital bed at the time, I thought to myself, “if I died today, none of these things I stress about would matter. And I thought “hmmmm, my family would cry, eat some jollof rice, have a party and they would move on. In that moment, after all the blood work, recommendations and everything else from the doctor, when I got home, I made a decision to change my life in 30 days and that began my journey to self-care…God-care.

2017

I took it more seriously

This was the year I became a twin mom. I was constantly anxious cuz ya know, gotta keep them alive and all. I was that mom who did not sleep well for almost 3 years because I refused to do the German style sleep training. I’m Nigerian, we respond to the needs of our babies. This was when I took my self-care seriously. I realized if I was not okay, I could not possibly be in the best mindset to connect, respond and be there for our babies. Going to the beach every Friday helped dramatically and taking 3 days off at least 2ice a year was the best decision my husband and I made for our well-being. He also gets to take a week off to just be. I have energy and my capacity is expanded because I manage my mental, physical and emotional l health. This practice of personal days away started in 2017. Now we do this every year.

2024

The catalyst for these planners

I was in a clarity session with my client Folake in South Africa on August 30th 2004. The session went great. She thought I was going to give her some business/branding advice. I told her based on what she told me, she needed 3-days of ‘Me Time’. She said that sounds like a good idea, but “Yetunde, what specifically should I do in those 3 days? I don’t have the band-width to be doing all that thinking of how to structure it, with all I have going on”.  She asked that I share with her how I spend mine. I had just done one in June. I shared with her how I spend my 3-days and I told her I would send her a pdf with 3 pages of what to do.

Well as team “do the most” the next thing you know, I created a whole entire planner lol. She was flabbergasted, heck so was I. This absolutely felt like a God project and that’s what I started calling it.  I sent her the PDF, she got her husband to print it out and went on a 3-day personal retreat. In her own words, this was her experience:

"When I started my 3-day God Care Plan, I was feeling disconnected, exhausted, and unsure of my direction. By the end, I had a renewed sense of peace and purpose. I wasn’t just resting my body—I was resetting my spirit, and that changed everything... The structure of the God Care Plan prepared my heart to meet with God. It didn’t box Him in—it created space for His presence. This was a game-changer for my life and my faith."

... this is a god-driven project

All my skills in branding, graphic design and making things radically clear came into play because, in less than 3 weeks, the first planner was done, then the Black Men’s version and then the Menopause Edition.  These three planners fit the line of my 3 core clients.  Women across the globe, Black Men and Women 50+.  So to help you understand, please do this:

First, let’s start with a deep, belly full, lung-cleansing breath…That’s right, breathe in deeply because, yep, that’s the actual breath of God in you. And since the breath of God keeps you alive (no big deal, right?), how you care for that body carrying all that divine air is basically you saying, ‘Hey God, I got this!’ It’s time for a reset, and I call it the 3-day Self-care a.k.a God Care renewal. Ready to dive into this divine self-care?  Let the divine pampering begin!

Things I do for self-care

Take a Power Nap: I recharge with a quick 25-minute nap to boost my energy without disrupting my night time sleep cycle.
Emergency Dance Parties: since I work from home, I put on my old skool 90's playlist and dance like no one’s watching—it’s therapy and cardio in one!
I legit schedule “Me Time”: I block out 3-4 hours just for yourself—whether to read, relax, go to the beach, or simply do nothing.
Drink Herbal Tea: I cook my raw ginger, sip on chamomile or peppermint tea to soothe my mind, body, and those pesky hot flashes.
I indulge in a Mini-Spa Moment: I go for a 30 minute foot massage, or put on a face mask, or massage my own hands to feel pampered at home. (I took hand massage classes in college).
Go get my care washed or De-clutter One Small Space:. I clear out a drawer or shelf to create a sense of order and mental clarity—it’s oddly satisfying!
